India
celebrates Teacher day on 5th September every year to honor the teachers
for their contributions made in a particular field or the community in
general. It is the birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan,
who was a strong believer of education, philosopher, most respected
politician, president of India and above all a great teacher, who has
received national and international recognition for his work.
Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on 5th
Sep, 1888 and became the President of India in 1962. He was approached
by a group of his students and friends with a request to allow them to
celebrate his birthday. Dr.Radhakrishnan’s reply was
“instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud
privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers' day". This request
showed Dr.Radhakrishnan's love for the teaching profession. Whatever be
the position he held whether as President or Vice President of India, he
remained a teacher all his life. T The teaching profession always
remained his first love. The highest award of the nation, The Bharat
Ratna, was conferred on him in 1954 in recognition of his meritorious
service to mankind.
Teacher’s day is always looked forward
by every teacher and student equally, as it is the most appropriate day
for every student to show his love and gratitude towards his teacher. As
far as a teacher is concerned, it is the day when he or she receives
appreciation for the work done. To make this day memorable for every
teacher, Teacher’s day celebrations
are organized in every school. Students organize various cultural
shows, stage programs, grand feast etc for their beloved teachers.
Teachers’ on this day our showered with gifts, flowers and cards from
their students. This day enables the teachers and students to get closer
to each other and understand them better. A better bonding gets
created. As a part of the teacher’s day celebrations, students also
dress up as teachers and take classes on their behalf.
In the education system, the teacher is the role model to a child in all stages of his academic life. At every stage of kids education
especially at the pre primary stage a teacher faces the greatest
challenge because it is the weaning period of a child’s life when he
takes the first step away from the safety of his home and mothers arms.
Here the teacher with love and patience has to make the child feel at
home. At the primary level of the education system, the teacher rises to
be a hero for the child who tends to imitate everything about the
teacher and the teacher’s words are final. When the child enters the
middle school, it is the onset of puberty, the teacher bearing this in
mind needs to use a tactical approach to win the students confidence and
trust. At the secondary level, the teacher meets critical attitudes of
the students, here again the teacher’s positive attitude and
encouragement will help to win over the students. In the senior
secondary level of the education system, a teacher must bear in mind
that her students who are almost adults expect her to be their best
guide model and value their opinions too.
The Teacher’s day is today an occasion
looked forward by teachers and students. It is a fun filled day at the
same time helps to develop a better bonding between the teachers and
students.
